Driven by new urbanization, urban renewal, cultural tourism landscapes and facade renovation of high-end real estate, the market for GRC (Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete) decorative components maintains steady growth. Lightweight, high-strength and highly malleable, GRC components are widely applied to exterior wall reliefs, roman columns, cornice lines, window & door casings, landscape flower pots and antique architectural carvings for European-style villas. As architectural aesthetics upgrade, designers adopt more complex curved surfaces, deep reliefs and irregular carved shapes. GRC manufacturers have raised higher requirements on mold detail reproduction, dimensional stability and alkali resistance. As a core mold-making material, GRC building decorative element molding silicone rubber gains increasing importance in the industrial chain.

GRC production conditions differ greatly from ordinary craft molding. GRC slurry is strongly alkaline. Long-term contact with cement slurry will erode ordinary general-purpose Mold Silicone, leading to sticky surface, reduced elasticity and decreased tear strength. The mold can only be reused for a small number of times. Frequent mold replacement greatly increases material cost and working hours for component factories. In addition, large architectural decorative parts span big dimensions. For long cornices and large-area wall reliefs, poor shrinkage control of silicone will cause dimensional deviation and warpage, failing to meet assembly tolerance standards on construction sites.
GRC special molding silicone is two-component RTV-2 room temperature vulcanized Liquid silicone rubber, including modified condensation-cured series and high-end addition-cured series, with formula optimized for cement casting. It has moderate fluidity. After mixing and defoaming, it can fully wet the prototype surface and penetrate fine structures in relief patterns and corners, faithfully reproducing architectural shapes. Finished GRC components have sharp lines and intact texture without bubble or pattern defects. Its linear shrinkage rate is controlled below 0.3%, ensuring stable dimension after curing. Mass-produced components maintain consistent size and meet installation precision requirements.
In terms of mechanical performance, this molding silicone delivers high tear resistance and good resilience. Most GRC parts adopt multi-piece brush molding process, and molds need repeated bending during demolding. High tear-resistant formula effectively prevents edge chipping and tearing of thin sections when stripping. Cured silicone possesses outstanding alkali resistance. After repeated contact with alkaline cement slurry, it resists aging and stickiness. One silicone mold can produce dozens of GRC components steadily, greatly reducing repeated mold-making cost and improving delivery efficiency of component manufacturers.
For construction adaptability, this liquid silicone supports two mainstream molding methods: layered brush molding and integral pour molding. For large deep reliefs, long cornices and irregular roman columns, layered brush molding is widely adopted. Silicone is applied in multiple coats with fiberglass cloth reinforcement, and gypsum or FRP outer shell is made to support the mold and avoid deformation. Small and medium components with simple shapes can be cast directly with frame, easy to operate. Room temperature curing eliminates heating equipment. It can be applied by small GRC workshops as well as large precast component factories.

Industry trends show the global architectural decoration sector is moving toward customization. Custom GRC orders from cultural tourism projects, commercial complexes and historic style renovation keep rising. Components become larger and shape complexity increases. Downstream manufacturers focus not only on raw material price, but also on comprehensive indicators including mold lifespan, finished product yield and dimensional stability. Material suppliers keep optimizing formulas, launching GRC silicone grades with different hardness and pot life for projects ranging from small carved ornaments to several-meter-long exterior wall decorations. Test documents are continuously upgraded to satisfy environmental compliance requirements of domestic and overseas construction projects.
