In the battery system sector, cell cushioning pads, pack insulation layers, and module protection components are often produced using silicone foam for shock absorption, thermal management, and fire safety. Silicone foam can maintain its elasticity and sealing force through the vibration, thermal expansion, and temperature swings that batteries experience during charging and discharging, protecting cells from impact and relative movement. At the same time, the flame retardancy and wide temperature range of silicone foam add critical safety margins in thermal runaway scenarios, while its resistance to electrolytes and moisture prevents the degradation that shortens battery life. For battery manufacturers, suitable silicone foam helps reduce vibration damage, thermal stress, and safety risk, making it more suitable for high-performance and long-life battery systems.
In the vehicle and charging sector, particularly for door seals, window channels, motor covers, and charging station electronics, sealing, cushioning, and weather protection are critical. Electric vehicles operate under harsh outdoor conditions and extreme temperature changes, so the materials used must resist UV, moisture, heat, and compression over years of service. Liquid silicone foam offers a uniform cell structure and high rebound, which helps maintain consistent sealing and cushioning performance throughout the vehicle's life. At the same time, the weather resistance and chemical inertness of silicone foam protect the sensitive electronics of charging systems and powertrain components, while its lightweight nature contributes to the weight reduction that extends driving range.
In electric vehicle and battery applications, the performance of silicone foam directly affects safety and reliability. First, the foam must have a high and controllable expansion ratio — typically 2 to 7 times its original volume — so that density and cushioning performance can be adjusted to meet different protection requirements. Second, the cured foam should have uniform cells and good rebound so that it recovers its shape after repeated compression and vibration without permanent deformation. Third, long-term stability should be excellent, with low linear shrinkage, no migration, and stable performance over a wide temperature range from -65°C to 200°C. In addition, flame retardancy, resistance to electrolytes and moisture, and chemical inertness are essential for battery and vehicle safety.

The application process for liquid silicone foam generally includes material preparation, mixing of A and B components at a 1:1 ratio, stirring for 2 to 3 minutes, vacuum degassing, pouring into molds or profiles, curing, and demolding. When producing large battery pads or complex sealing components, flowability and working time are especially important. High-quality liquid silicone foam can maintain a stable viscosity for a sufficiently long working time, allowing operators to mix, degas, and pour properly while avoiding bubbles and voids. For demanding applications, controlled curing temperature, mold design, and dimensional verification can further improve cell uniformity, sealing integrity, and production efficiency.
Today, the electric vehicle industry is demanding not just basic cushioning and sealing, but also higher safety standards, longer battery life, and stricter fire performance. Traditional materials often face problems of heat aging, electrolyte resistance, moisture absorption, and limited fire performance when used in demanding battery applications. Liquid silicone foam helps address these challenges through its excellent thermal stability, flame retardancy, and chemical inertness, making it particularly useful for battery pack protection, thermal management, and high-safety vehicle sealing systems.
For manufacturers, selecting the right liquid silicone foam can improve battery safety, vehicle reliability, and service life while reducing warranty claims, thermal risk, and maintenance cost. As the global electric vehicle market continues to expand, material upgrades in silicone foam can drive efficiency improvements across the entire EV production chain. Looking ahead, liquid silicone foam will continue to play an increasingly important role in battery protection, thermal management, and sealing applications for electric vehicles and energy storage systems.
