Food molds are an unforgiving application. A chocolate mold has to release cleanly hundreds of times, hold fine surface detail, and still satisfy the documentation that a food producer needs to keep on file. Buyers who source platinum cure silicone for this work quickly discover that samples from different suppliers can behave very differently even when both are labelled food grade. The question is rarely which quotation is lowest. It is which supplier can demonstrate that the material is what it says it is.
For food contact applications, the paperwork is not a formality. Ask for the food grade test report and check that it names the product family you are buying, not a generic statement covering an unrelated grade. If the finished product ships to Europe or North America, check that RoHS and REACH documentation covers the same material. A supplier who can match each certificate to a production batch is far easier to audit later than one who forwards a single scan for every enquiry.
Two further points matter just as much. Platinum cured silicone is addition curing, which means it does not rely on tin catalysts and does not release by-products during cure. For food molds this also means no taste or odour transfer, which is often the first thing a chocolate or candy producer tests.
Before comparing quotations, put the same five questions to every supplier.
· What hardness tolerance is held, and how is it measured
· What shrinkage and tear strength should the delivered batch meet
· What is the recommended mixing ratio, and is it 1:1 or 10:1
· Which packaging formats are available, from trial size upward
· What is the minimum order quantity and the lead time for a first batch

| Dimension | Trading company | Integrated manufacturer |
| Product documentation | Forwarded from source | Issued per batch |
| Technical answers | Relayed, often generic | Direct from production |
| Customization | Passed upstream | Adjusted in house |
| Batch consistency | Varies with source | Controlled on the line |
None of this makes trading companies unusable. For buyers who need a small quantity of standard material and no customization, a trading partner can often ship faster. The difficulty appears later, when a food producer asks a specific question about cure schedule or catalyst type and the answer has to travel up and back down the chain.
Food molds are not a single application, and hardness choice changes the result more than most buyers expect.
· 10 to 20 Shore A suits chocolate, candy and cake decoration molds, where the mold must flex to release delicate shapes without cracking
· 20 to 30 Shore A suits soap molds, candle molds and general food-contact work
· 35 Shore A and above suits structural molds and larger parts that must hold their shape
A mold that is too firm will fight the demolding of a thin chocolate shell. A mold that is too soft will distort on larger parts. Many food producers keep two grades on the shelf for exactly this reason.
The supplier relationship does not end when the drums arrive. Two operational details decide whether a long-term partnership works. The first is batch traceability: if one drum behaves differently, can the supplier identify which production run it came from? The second is technical support during the first production cycle, when mixing ratio, degassing and cure temperature are still being tuned to the workshop's conditions.
Buyers who ask about these two points before placing a repeat order usually avoid the more expensive failures later.
Shortlist on documentation first. Request a pre-production sample from the production batch rather than a laboratory mix. Test that sample under your own working conditions, not just on a bench. Compare tear strength and shrinkage against the specification. Then discuss commercial terms, including trial quantity, packaging and delivery schedule.
Following this order costs a few extra days at the start and saves considerably more later, because a mold that fails mid-production stops a line and wastes far more material than the difference between two quotations.
Shenzhen Hong Ye Jie Technology Co., Ltd manufactures addition curing silicone rubber for mold making. The group was founded in 1998 and the current company was established in 2006, operating from a factory of approximately 6,000 square metres with 20 production lines and a monthly capacity of about 220 tons. The HY-E series covers 10 to 50 Shore A in semi transparent and customizable colours, and the company holds ISO9001, RoHS, REACH, FDA, UL and CE certification, with products shipped to 138 countries. Trial orders start from 2kg, pre-production sampling is standard practice, and every shipment is inspected before dispatch.
For buyers comparing platinum cure silicone suppliers for food molds, we are glad to discuss the grade that fits your product shape and release requirements, and to send samples for testing.
