Formula Technology Innovation
The core challenge in super soft silicone formulation is the inherent tradeoff between softness and physical strength. Lower hardness typically means lower crosslink density and poorer mechanical properties, leading to pad heads that tear easily and have short service lives. Hongye Silicone's R&D team addressed this through three key innovations: optimized molecular chain structure design for improved toughness at low hardness, introduction of nano reinforcing fillers that enhance strength without increasing hardness, and precise control of crosslink density and distribution for balanced elasticity and conformability.
The result is HY-916 with hardness of only 16 Shore A, 7 degrees softer than conventional 23A economy grade, while maintaining tensile strength ≥2.5MPa, tear strength ≥10kN/m and elongation ≥400%. This achievement represents a leading position in the domestic industry and provides global customers with a cost effective alternative to imported super soft pad printing silicones.
Performance Parameter Analysis
Elongation ≥400% is the most critical parameter for curved surface printing. This means the pad head can be compressed to less than half its original height during printing, with sufficient deformation to reach into concave areas and conform to large radius curves that normal pad heads cannot contact. This directly translates to more complete pattern transfer on irregular surfaces.
The 30-40 minute working time and 2-4 hour curing time provide an efficient production window. Operators have sufficient time for weighing, stirring, degassing and mold pouring without rushing, while same day curing ensures pad heads can be put into production quickly. The 10000mPa.s viscosity is carefully optimized to be pourable without being too fluid, while ensuring fine texture and smooth pad head surfaces for uniform ink transfer.
Application Results Comparison
In electronic housing printing tests, normal 23A pad heads printing mobile phone case side logos achieved a defect rate of 12% due to poor conformity on curved edges. After switching to HY-916 super soft pad heads, the defect rate dropped to below 1%, with complete and sharp logo printing around the entire curved surface.
In cosmetic bottle printing, normal pad heads produced patterns clear in the center but blurred at both ends with inaccurate overprinting on curved perfume bottles. HY-916 super soft pad heads delivered uniform printing around the full circumference with improved overprint accuracy, meeting the premium quality standards required by cosmetics brands.
Selection Guidance
For flat or slightly curved surface printing, HY-901 economy grade (23A) offers the best cost performance. For multi color overprint fine patterns, HY-912 multi color universal grade (25A) provides good resilience and accurate overprinting. For high volume automated production, HY-902 high wear grade (28A) delivers long service life and low comprehensive cost. For large curvature irregular curved surfaces, HY-916 super soft grade (16A) is the recommended choice for optimal conformity and print completeness.
