Bio-Circular LSR for Food Contact Rolls Out for Mass Production

2026,10,21

The silicone sector sees a major sustainable material milestone this week, as a European silicone supplier begins commercial delivery of its REDcert2-certified bio-circular liquid silicone rubber. The material replaces a portion of fossil raw materials with renewable bio-methanol, without sacrificing the non-toxic, heat-resistant properties required for food-contact applications. It is platinum-cured, low in volatile organics, and compatible with injection molding for cake molds, candy moulds and kitchen silicone utensils. Many food manufacturers and mold makers are switching specifications to satisfy brand ESG targets and customer sustainability audits. Unlike conventional recycled silicone, this bio-circular grade maintains consistent hardness, tear strength and release performance, eliminating molding defects common with recycled filler systems. Analysts note that buyers in North America and Western Europe are willing to pay a moderate premium for traceable, low-carbon silicone materials. This development helps silicone exporters meet rising buyer demands for carbon declarations alongside standard FDA and LFGB compliance documents.
