Application Scenarios
Stationery Industry High Volume High Speed Printing
The stationery industry is one of the most widespread pad printing applications, including pen barrels, pencil cases, staplers, scissor handles, rulers, sharpeners and more, with large batch sizes, high printing speeds and extremely high wear resistance requirements for pads. Stationery production typically uses multi-color pad printing machines for high speed continuous production, with one machine printing tens of thousands of pieces per day. Pads withstand high frequency continuous pressing, and standard pads quickly wear out causing pattern blur, requiring frequent replacement that severely impacts production efficiency.
Hongye HY-902 high wear resistant long life pad printing silicone is designed for stationery industry high volume high speed printing. With 28 Shore A hardness, dense fine texture and excellent wear and tear resistance, pads withstand high frequency continuous pressing without rapid wear, with service life 30% longer than standard economical pads, greatly reducing pad changes and downtime while improving efficiency. Stable ink transfer maintains sharp clear patterns even during long continuous high speed production. Multiple colors allow matching stationery product colors to avoid pad color transfer contamination.
Tools and Small Hardware Industry Marking
Tools and small hardware products include screwdrivers, wrenches, pliers, hammers, tape measures, knives, locks, hardware fittings and more, mostly made of metal or hard plastic with high surface hardness, some with oil or anti-rust coating on the surface, requiring high wear resistance and oil resistance from pad printing heads. Tools and hardware products typically require printing brand logos, model specifications, scale markings, demanding high pattern clarity and wear resistance, with relatively large batch sizes requiring durable long-lasting pads.
Hongye HY-902 performs excellently in tools and small hardware industry. High hardness dense wear resistant texture withstands high frequency pressing on metal and hard plastic surfaces without rapid wear, with good oil resistance against oil and anti-rust coating erosion. Excellent tear resistance prevents pads from tearing or corner chipping from sharp object edges. Sharp clear patterns deliver good brand logo and model specification printing results with clear durable markings. Long service life reduces replacement frequency and lowers overall cost, especially suitable for tools and hardware industry high volume continuous production.
Operating Instructions
Step 1 Pad Mold Preparation
Thoroughly clean the pad mold, ensuring the surface is free of dust, oil, residual silicone and other contaminants. Wipe with alcohol or specialized cleaner, air dry, then apply release agent evenly. Use dedicated silicone release agent or petroleum jelly, thin even coat without accumulation. Allow 5-10 minutes to fully dry. Place mold on a flat level surface.
Step 2 Component A Preparation
Before pouring, stir component A base rubber thoroughly for 1-2 minutes, as fillers may settle during storage. Scrape bucket walls and bottom to ensure complete uniformity. If taking a small portion from a large bucket, stir again after taking. Use moderate stirring speed to avoid excessive air bubbles.
Step 3 Weighing and Mixing
Accurately weigh A and B at 100:2 ratio by weight using electronic scale, error within ±5%. Mix thoroughly for 3-5 minutes, continuously scraping container walls and bottom to ensure complete uniform blending. Uniform mixing indicated by completely consistent color without streaks or blocks.
Step 4 Pouring and Degassing
Slowly pour mixed silicone into prepared mold from one side, allowing natural flow to fill, avoiding direct impact bubbles. Pour to about 80% full. If vacuum available, vacuum degas at -0.09 MPa for 2-3 minutes until no more bubbles emerge. Without vacuum, rest 5-10 minutes for natural bubble rise, or use low heat gun to sweep surface.
Step 5 Curing and Demolding
After degassing, cover board and cure at room temperature 25°C for 2-4 hours before demolding. Curing time temperature dependent, lower temperatures extend time, higher temperatures shorten. For faster curing, heat at 60°C for 30-60 minutes, but temperature must not exceed 100°C. After curing, gently remove pad from mold, do not pull forcefully. Rest 24 hours before use for full property stabilization.
Step 6 Use and Maintenance
Before use, gently wipe pad surface with alcohol to remove dust and oil. For first use, test print on waste paper several times to fully ink up surface. If residual ink or paper dust found during printing, gently remove with clean non-woven fabric or adhesive tape, do not repeatedly wipe with solvent as this accelerates aging. When not in use, wrap surface with plastic film, store in cool dry place away from sunlight and dust. Store pads for different products separately to avoid cross-contamination.

Notes
Use polyethylene, nylon or nitrile gloves, do not use natural latex gloves. Avoid contact with sulfur-containing substances, amines, phosphorus compounds, tin-cure silicone and PVC, as these may inhibit curing catalyst or affect reaction. Use calibrated scale to accurately weigh A and B at 100:2 by weight, mix thoroughly 3-5 minutes scraping container walls and bottom. Heat curing temperature must not exceed 100°C. Maintain good ventilation. Component B has mild irritation, avoid direct skin and eye contact, rinse with plenty water if contact occurs. Seal immediately after use to avoid moisture absorption or solvent evaporation.
Storage
Store in sealed containers below 25°C in dry ventilated place, away from direct sunlight, sulfur-containing substances, amines, food and strong chemicals. Shelf life 12 months from production date. Seal immediately after taking material. Refrigeration at 5-15°C extends shelf life, warm to room temperature before opening to avoid condensation. Store A and B separately, do not mix during storage. Storage area away from fire and heat sources with good ventilation.
FAQ
Q: What is the difference between 902 and 901? How to choose?
A: 901 is economical general-purpose with 23 Shore A, high cost-performance, simple operation, ideal for entry-level production, small batch multi-product and cost-sensitive companies. 902 is high wear resistant long life with 28 Shore A, better wear and tear resistance, longer service life, ideal for high volume continuous production, high frequency pressing products, stationery and tools requiring high wear resistance. Choose 902 if high output, frequent pad changes, high pad life requirement; choose 901 for small batch multi-product or cost sensitivity.
Q: How long does a 902 pad last?
A: 902 high wear resistant pad service life depends on printing frequency, product material, ink type, cleaning method and maintenance, typically 20,000 to 50,000 prints in routine high volume high speed production, 30% longer than standard economical pads. In stationery and tools industry high frequency continuous production, check pad surface condition daily, replace when wear is severe or patterns become blurry. Proper cleaning and maintenance effectively extends service life.
Q: Will higher hardness pads cause unclear printing or damage products?
A: 902 at 28 Shore A, although the highest among four models, is still in the soft silicone category and will not damage product surfaces. Higher hardness dense fine texture provides more stable ink transfer and sharper clearer patterns, especially suitable for fine printing on hard flat surfaces. However, for large radius curved surfaces or soft easily deformable products, higher hardness pads may have less conformability than extra-soft 916, so choose appropriate hardness based on product shape. 902 performs best on flat and small curvature hard products.
